MALL (MOBILE ASSISTED LANGUAGE LEARNING) AND MOBILE DEVICES
Nowadays, we are witnessed the concomitant rise of use of mobile devices wherever we go, and the popularity of mobile devices has in classrooms. Now, it is normally to see students with their friends walking around with their mobile devices in hand consulting, chatting, playing or surfing on social networks.
The practicality of mobile devices has given us the use of technology and why not to take advantage of these devices for learning a new language using an approach.
For the reasons above I chose this article because I wanted to learn how face and use a mobile device as an elementary tool for the teaching and learning process with my students.
Reading this article and many more I could find out about MALL approach which is aligned with the use of mobile devices and also with the Special Population Course for Young Learners, Teens and Adults.
MALL (MOBILE ASSISTED LANGUAGE LEARNING) is an approach to language learning that is based on the use of mobile devices and allows interaction between teachers and peers. It offers flexible access to learning resources and allows shortening distances in real time. MALL is a set of elements that has gained popularity in recent years due to the implementation of techniques and the use of mobile devices such as MP3 / 4 players, tablets and smartphones (iPhone or Samsung Galaxy).
From this reading comes to my mind many question such as: are Teachers and students academically prepared for using mobile devices in classrooms? , does MALL approach fit for adult learners? , Can Mobile devices and MALL approach bring us to positive results? and does the implementation of Mobile devices and Mall approach in classrooms replace the traditional classes?
Talking about MALL approach and the use of mobile devices according my personal point of view is as crucial as useful topic because the results of this study show that students have a positive attitude towards the use of mobile devices in educational activities. In addition, many teachers support the use of mobile devices using MALL approach.
As conclusion it seems to be a contradictory topic especially for traditional teachers who are not up dated into technology and learning processes. However, this topic seems to be very interesting because it is quite practical to use mobile devices in classrooms. Then, I am going to read more about it and in a near future I want to put in practice in my English classes in order to enhance the learning process.
Finally, I think that it is a good option for learning a new language especially for adult learners who are very demanding people but at the same time very conscious to get involved with responsibility to any kind of activity. And me as a teacher I am sure that I can persuade adults with examples and good activities to learn a new language as English is. I hope that all of you enjoy with this topic and with my comments. Thanks.
