Assessing Teen Learners (Nancy)

HOW ASSESSING TO TEEN LEARNERS (Nancy Barreno)

As reflection according last class, a topic very useful and interesting as teachers we must face, the assessment of learner in its integrality. I think the successful of human being depend of many factors from when is a little boy, the affective, physical development, cognitive stage and values play a very important role. The Physical and emotional stage sometimes result in a problem because often they are moodiness and difficult behavior, and feel to be ignored and misunderstood due hormones can’t completely explain their behavior, because they  experiment primarily results from changes in the development of the brain until 25,  when they have achieved maturity.

This stage affect the scholar part in them, a crucial element in its future, and we as teachers must apply the positive psychology  in the classroom as means of stimulation “badges or rewards” facing to accomplishments and efforts given for them in order to stimulate them to achieve their goals. The “Peer coaching” strategy applied in the academic settings to face teens with behavioral problems would be a great tool to involve them  in such a way he/she becomes an proactive leader and successful  inside of group. On another hand the trends as the fashion, the social networks, snapchat, Netflix, Spotify, selfies and Zumba is a good option to work in right way using the technology while learn which they fell identified and encouraged.

One experience was when I had a group of problem teenagers related to behavioral and academic part, so I applied the students–centered learning while “Peer coaching” “Role play”, “jigsaw”, “Digital games based learning”, “Self-directed learning “ “Forum” “Chatting” among other as strategies to work collaborative and cooperatively which help them a lot to gain confidence and self-esteem becoming a prominent learners and attitude changed notoriously in the class and undoubtedly towards the subject, and getting the best grades.

  1. I am agree with you Nancy because I think that as teachers we need to evaluate to our students totally in their knowledge, the behavior in the classroom with the teachers and with the classmates also I think that if we have a student with problem in his/her behavior or knowledge we need to try to ask what happen in his/her environment with the classmates and in the family because as teachers we need to know about our students.
Your strategy was good when you had students with bad behavior I think that your strategy help them to fix their problems in the classroom because when they share the time with some peolple they can try to have good behavior. In conclusion I think that as teachers we need to know about our students problems inside and outside the classroom to help them in any way.

  2. I agree Nancy, I also consider that is a good idea to apply rewards, because students, especially teens have to be motivated to participate in class, for example when I worked with adolescents some time ago. I usually said any volunteer to read or do something in class, but nobody wanted to participate, it was a difficult group, so I adopted the strategy of extra points. I started to say one extra point for the student who wants to read this text in the book, or answer that question or any other activity. In this way I caught their attention, and they started to participate in class.

  3. Hello Nancy
Of course the main idea is that people, especially teenagers enjoy and at the same time Your essays is very nice especially when you say about The “Peer coaching” strategy because is the first time that I am listen to this strategy. However according to you explanation it is useful for behavioural problems with teens. Finally you gave some nice ideas about how control in my classrooms the behavioural problems by means of didactic activities that you mentioned above.
